Conserve Energy
Using air conditioning with doors or windows opened won't cool the jungle or your room. Setting the thermostat too low wastes power and creates condensation. Please only use your A/C if truly needed. The recommended temp setting is 22 centigrade (72 Fahrenheit). Turning the lights off when leaving your room also makes a big difference, as does shorter showers. When we all participate in conservation, a little individual effort can go a long way to making a difference.
Respect Nature
Green Hotels management asks that you do not remove any flora or fauna from the property or nature trails. Please do not feed the animals that may visit during your stay. We try to keep noise to minimum, helping to provide a quiet and peaceful environment for everyone. The Family Pool slide closes at 5:00 pm! in order to help maintain the tranquility at sunset, and both pools close by 9:00 p.m. No lifeguard on duty.
Reduce Water Usage
Although Villablanca and Si Como No utilize their own water wells (Si Como No for gardening and Villablanca for all usages), if you do not want bed linens to be changed, please place the card provided on your bed in the morning. A towel left on the floor means that you would like a fresh towel.
Recycle
Green Hotels of Costa Rica recycle glass, plastic and aluminum cans. Please separate these items for collection or place in the larger re-cycle containers located on both properties. We use our fruit and vegetable waste for bocashi compost to fertilize the hotel gardens. Meat, fish and poultry scraps are collected daily for the local pig farms near both hotels.
Green Hotels of Costa Rica supports a 30-acre Wildlife Refuge at Si Como No, and the Private Biological Reserve next to Villablanca Cloud Forest Hotel. The Nature Refuge of Fincas Naturales features a multi-level Butterfly and Aquatic Tropical Gardens, Aquatic Amphibian Gardens, Nocturnal Walk, and both hotels include user-friendly nature trails interpreted by qualified naturalists on staff. The exhibits are considered some of the most unique in Costa Rica!
Green Hotels continues to support local efforts to protect the environment. The Mono Titi (Squirrel Monkey) is a unique species endemic to the region of Quepos and was featured in the July' 98 issue of Smithsonian magazine and more recently on the front page of The Los Angeles Times. This endangered monkey has initiated the creation of the non-profit association, Ascomoti, which Ecovision, co-founded with other local tourist concerns. We encourage you to check out and support their valuable work at www.ascomoti.org
