Partners in Conservation

A little over two million years ago, the forces of the land and sea converged on a point that lay between the masses of North and South America, thus creating a "land bridge". The rich coast, that Columbus would name Costa Rica , represents one of the most important laboratories of flora and fauna on Planet Earth.

Ecovision's first project, Hotel Si Como No, is the product of twenty-five years of experience in this tropical paradise is a testament to the award winning architectural beauty that has been created by Ecovision and their creative team of architects and engineers. At Hotel Si Como No, and now also Villablanca Cloud Forest Hotel. At Hotel Si Como No, and now also at Villablanca Cloud Forest Hotel.

Until quite recently, eco-tourism was pretty much a pipe dream. The economics of development, versus management, the cost of land and wildlife management were in direct conflict. Most local developers had neither the vision nor the interest to consider any alternative to their style of expansion... basically to bulldoze the forest and put up buildings, as economical as possible, and them hire a landscaper to re-landscape the property.

Using the natural jungle as their backdrop, the developers decided to go beyond the "accepted" ecological standards of the local tourist industry and prove that serious sustainable development was possible in the region. Using the developers marketing experience from the entertainment industry, the project attracted a creative team to create their vision. What once appeared to many to be a pipe dream, is now a dream destination for many contented visitors year round who endorse the comfort, "friendly" service, and natural charm labeled the "magic of nature".

Also both Si Como No and Villablanca Cloud Forest Hotel take organic waste from the kitchens and convert it to organic compost through a Japanese method called "Bocashi".

The compost is used throughout the gardens. The properties also recycles glass, plastic and aluminum containers through local recycle programs.

At Hotel Si Como No the window and ceiling insulation increases energy efficiency. A significant portion of the hotel water supply is heated with solar energy. In-room cards remind our guests and employees to help support these conservation efforts. With the new venture of Green Hotels, Villablanca also shares the common and ecological vision that qualifies both properties as four (4) leaf members of the Certification for Sustainable Tourism (CST).
